Terms of Use - Verify Promise

By using Verify Promise, you agree to these terms. Read them carefully - some sections (especially 4 and 6) describe important limitations on what the service can and cannot guarantee.

1. What Verify Promise is

Verify Promise is a service that lets you cryptographically seal content (a result, prediction, number, or any text) before a related event occurs, and reveal it afterward, so that anyone can mathematically confirm the content was not altered between sealing and revelation.

2. Eligibility and permitted use

You must be at least 18 years old, or the legal age of majority in your jurisdiction, to use this service.
You may use Verify Promise for any lawful purpose: giveaways, predictions, informal bets, personal challenges, agreements between parties, and similar uses.
You must not use the service for: illegal activities, fraud, defamation, content that incites hatred or violence, distribution of content involving child exploitation, or any purpose that violates the laws of your jurisdiction or that of third parties affected by your use of the service.

3. How it works (plain-language summary)

You write content and seal it - the system generates a public digital fingerprint (hash) and a private key.
You are solely responsible for keeping that private key safe. Verify Promise does not store it in plain text and cannot recover or reset it for you.
When you decide to reveal, the system compares your revealed content against the original hash. If it matches, it is marked as publicly verified. If it does not match, the reveal is permanently marked as a mismatch - there is no possibility of retrying the content reveal once submitted, specifically to prevent the commitment's own creator from manipulating the outcome after learning a real result.

4. Service limitations - read carefully

Loss of private key: if you lose your private key, your commitment will remain permanently sealed with no possibility of revelation. Verify Promise cannot help you recover it under any circumstances - this is a deliberate design decision, not a technical limitation we can resolve.
User errors: if, when revealing, you write content different (even by a typo) from what you originally sealed, the commitment will be permanently marked as "not authentic." We explicitly warn you about this in the reveal flow before you confirm, but responsibility for writing the correct content is yours.
Verify Promise does not arbitrate disputes: the service mathematically verifies whether content matches a previously published hash. It does not opine on, mediate, or resolve disputes about the meaning, legitimacy, or consequences of any promise's content. If you use Verify Promise for a giveaway, bet, or agreement between parties, any dispute about those agreements is the exclusive responsibility of those involved, not Verify Promise.
Service availability: we make our best effort to keep the service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We are not liable for losses resulting from service interruptions.

5. Public content and permanence

Sealed commitments generate a public page, accessible by anyone with the corresponding link.
Once revealed, a commitment's content becomes public and permanent - it cannot be deleted or hidden afterward, since that permanence is the core guarantee the service offers to third parties who rely on the verification.
Do not publish any content on Verify Promise that you do not want to be public and permanent.

6. No guarantees of outcome or advice

Verify Promise is a cryptographic verification tool, not a legal, financial, or any other type of advisory service.
We do not guarantee that using this service is sufficient as legal proof in any specific jurisdiction. If you need a commitment to have formal legal validity (for example, for a contractual dispute), consult a lawyer about whether this service is adequate for your case, or whether you need a verification mechanism with enhanced legal validity.
The service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Verify Promise and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from the use or inability to use the service, including but not limited to: loss of a private key, disputes arising from a promise's content, or service interruptions.

8. Intellectual property

Content you seal remains yours. We do not claim any ownership rights over the content of your commitments.
The Verify Promise brand, its design, logo, and the service's presentation mechanism are the property of Verify Promise and may not be reproduced without authorization, except for the intended use of the shareable badge and the link to the public certificate.

9. Changes to the service and these terms

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue service features at any time. We may update these terms as the service evolves; material changes will be published with a visible update date on this same page.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed, to the extent permitted by law, by the laws applicable in the jurisdiction where Verify Promise legally operates. If you are a resident of a jurisdiction that grants consumer protection rights that cannot be contractually waived (such as certain rights under European Union regulations), those rights remain applicable regardless of what is stated in this section.

12. Language

The official versions of these terms are Spanish and English, both maintained and updated by Verify Promise. In case of discrepancy between them, the English version prevails, unless applicable law in your jurisdiction requires otherwise.
